Comelec to deploy more security personnel in ‘clash points’ for 2025 elections

The Commission on Elections aims to increase the number of security personnel stationed at "clash points" amid the unexpected violence that occurred during the recent village and youth elections.

Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco said in an interview that the agency will improve on the security implementation in the upcoming 2025 elections.

The "clash points," also known as Comelec's areas of concern, are categorized as green, yellow, orange, and red.

Laudiangco stated that the level of election-related violence was unexpected despite the sufficient number of police and military personnel deployed at clash points during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

"The clash points like in Puerto Princesa, we really did not expect that, because Puerto Princesa City is not in the red category, neither in the orange category, it's actually in the green category," Laudiangco added.

The Comelec suspended the operation for several hours when supporters of a candidate in Barangay Kalipay barged into a clustered precinct and tore up hundreds of unused ballots.

Comelec reported that the elections were generally peaceful even as pockets of violence marred polls.
