The Commission on Elections said on Monday that they are hoping to successfully implement more mall voting by 2025 as its chairperson George Erwin Garcia said that they are grateful to the mall owners for allowing them to conduct the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in their malls.
"We will talk to the mall owners across the country with regards to our plan for the upcoming 2025 elections so we can vote in all their malls. Apart from corporate social responsibility, we are grateful to the mall owners and operators for letting us use their facilities for free. It's not just the facility but also their staff that helps us," Garcia said.
"This is a great help for the elections because rather than us spending, we do not want our school to be so used and damage the students' chairs and other school supplies. Even our electoral boards, our teachers are in good condition," he added.
The Comelec chief added that mall-voting is also convenient to senior citizens and people with disabilities, as the conditions in other precincts may cause them exhaustion.
"It's getting hot outside, especially in our schools. Our students' chairs will be damaged. We don't want our senior citizens, PDLs, and PWDs to experience any challenges in practicing their right to suffrage, as the condition outside is difficult," Garcia said.
