Surigao Sur jolted by quake

BUTUAN CITY — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that three moderately strong earthquakes struck the town of Madrid in Surigao del Sur province on Sunday morning.
The state seismic bureau disclosed that a magnitude 4.0 earthquake happened at around 8.53 a.m. while a magnitude 4.8 tremor took place at 8:56 a.m.17 and 18 kilometers southwest of Madrid, respectively.
Phivolcs recorded the third earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 at 9:48 a.m. some five kilometers southwest of Madrid town.
It said Intensity III was also felt in Lanuza, Surigao del Sur when the magnitude 4.8 quake rocked Madrid.
Phivolcs categorized an Intensity 4 earthquake as moderately strong felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors.
