Former Rodrigo Roa Duterte said the Commission on Audit should conduct a transparent financial auditing of all government agencies in the country.
Duterte made this remark on his weekly program over the SMNI News channel on Tuesday night, noting that COA should make it a priority to audit himself and his daughter's Office of the Vice President.
"Unahin nila ako pati kay Sara. Make it a priority and COA should come up a public statement to this challenged," he said.
"I am not asking you COA! I am challenging you to initiate the opening of all records of the government, especially the finance side of it," he added.
Duterte confidently urged the COA to immediately start the auditing of his previous office.
"Umpishan na ninyo para malaman na natin (Start it now so we can find out) or I will go to the Supreme Court or in the Ombudsman—sabihin ko sa inyo—Ombudsman kindly tell them that there's a constitutional mandate in it and there's a Filipino citizen asking to be guided by what the books are all about," he said.
"Let us not debate on that, just open the book. No more talk, show us where the money is and how it was spent by all government officials, us, me, and the Congress," he added.
On the other hand, Duterte slammed the government's plan to amend the compensation package for men in uniform as well as policies pension system of retired military and police officials.
"Hindi ako nagpapa-hero sa mga military. Hindi ako nagpapa-hero sa mga pulis. Ibinigay ko iyan kasi naawa ako sa mga tao, nagpapakamatay para sa bayan natin!," he said.
In 2018, Duterte approved the pay hike for soldiers and policemen across the country.
He previously signed the Congress' Joint Resolution No. 1, authorizing the increase in base pay, as well as allowances, benefits, and incentives for all military personnel under the Departments of National Defense and Interior and the Local Government, Philippine Coast Guard, and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority.
The joint resolution also provides that modification of the base pay for the MUP "shall be aligned with the objective of maintaining fiscal integrity and pursuing pension reform."
"I only asked the military a little pressure. After all, we are a democratic process, everybody can exert pressure on the government to do what is right, just, and fair. That's how it is," Duterte said.
"Siguro 'pag nakita ninyo ngayon, if you now see how the money was spent wantonly by Congress, then, maybe it's your decision. Tingan mo muna what the mess is all about," he added.
The former president emphasized the government should not take away what is duly given to the military and policemen.
"Binigay na 'yan tapos kunin?," he said.
