The Quezon City Police District on Wednesday said that two of the four suspects in the alleged death of a 25-year-old student from hazing pledged to cooperate with authorities.
QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said Justin Artates, Kyle Michael de Castro, Lexer Angelo Manarpies and Mark Leo Andales are being held for the death of Aldryn Leary Bravante, a 4th year Criminology student of the Philippine College of Criminology.
"The latest is that two of our four suspects who are in our custody have executed their extrajudicial confessions, admitting that they were actually there in the said initiation rites and that they are cooperating with us. They were able to provide 10 more of their colleagues in the initiation," Maranan said in a radio interview on Wednesday.
He added that the suspects will face charges for violation of Republic Act 11053, also known as the Anti-Hazing Law of 2018.
The QCPD chief reminded the public that hazing carries a penalty of life imprisonment.
"Recently we conducted CCTV backtracking and we did see the arrival and departure of those who participated in the initiation rites and now we are clarifying and enhancing the CCTV footages so that we can see the plate numbers of the motorcycle that were used by all those who participated in the initiation rites," he said.
Maranan appealed to all those involved to surrender as the QCPD is determined to search and pursue all those involved in this crime.
Bravante, a resident of Imus, Cavite, was rushed to the hospital on Monday evening after getting unconscious while undergoing the initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity in an abandoned building in Quezon City.
A cursory examination showed that the victim had hematoma on his both legs and marks of burned cigarettes on his chest and both hands.
