Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Monday laughed off the call of former senator Antonio Trillanes IV to the Marcos administration to allow the International Criminal Court to investigate alleged crimes against humanity by the previous Duterte administration.
"It's just noise," Dela Rosa told reporters in a virtual media interview. "There he goes again. I thought this man already stopped. Here he comes making noise again. He has been making noise about it since 2016. Up to now he is still making noise."
In a statement, Trillanes said the Magdalo, the group of failed putschists he headed, is urging President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to allow ICC investigators into the country.
"This is in light of Mr. Duterte's recent public admission that he used his confidential/intelligence funds to conduct extrajudicial killings," the former lawmaker stated.
"Being the original filers of the ICC case in 2017, we have witnessed and documented the barbaric actions of the past administration, as well as the trauma and hardships that the thousands of victims and their families have suffered. Truly, justice is long overdue," Trillanes added.
Dela Rosa, a staunch ally and Duterte's first Philippine National Police chief, remained unfazed, denying Duterte ever said he used his intelligence funds to kill anyone.
"You know President Duterte, he loves to use figures of speech. Killed. What did he kill? Is it the person himself, the cause, or the instrumentalities? What was he referring to when he said killed?" Dela Rosa asked in Filipino.
"I'm not answering as the lawyer of the former president, but for me I just know how he speaks, that's why I answered you that way. He loves to use superlatives, extreme words, and all kinds of figures of speech," Dela Rosa added.
