‘Coppelia’ captures our hearts

The magic of dance delights the young and young-at-heart again through Ballet Philippines. For its 54th season, we flocked to watch the classic comic ballet, "Coppelia." According to BP president Kathleen Liechtenstein, Coppelia was presented 15 years ago, but this time around, they've made it bolder, funnier and sassier. Loved it!

We dolled up for the gala at the Theatre at Solaire, excited to see the story of life-sized "dolls" come to life on stage. Cocktails and canapés kept us company as we waited for the performances to begin. But it was worth the wait because when it finally did, I was transported into a world of whimsy!

The costumes, the set design and the performances were just sheer perfection. I won't spoil the fun with details, but I really think everyone can enjoy "Coppelia." Perfect for families, too!

BP artistic director Mikhail Martynyuk did a fantastic job with choreography. Turns out, he played the role of Franz for his first professional performance so this was close to his heart.

On its weekend shows, BP welcomed children from various organizations such as the Philippine Cancer Society, Sisters of Mary School and more; and the men and women of "Men in Uniform" who have defended and served the country. BP has such a beautiful advocacy of inspiring young minds and giving back through the arts. Their CSR program is aptly named, because they really do "Share the Magic."

Now back to ballet  — after the meet-and-greet and another roaring round of applause for the dancers at the theater lobby, I engaged in some post-show fun with friends over dinner. Can I still call it dinner even if it lasted until 1 a.m.? Well, we had a blast anyway.

Such a wonderful, light-hearted evening with BP. Can't wait to be surprised by the theme of the next show. Cheers to the arts!
