The Commission on Elections said that the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections 2023 are expected to draw at least a 75% voter turnout.
According to Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia, they are hoping to exceed the 70% voter turnout in 2018.
"We hope to exceed the 70% voter turnout in 2018. We hope we'll have 75% voter turnout for the upcoming BSKE" Garcia said.
Garcia stressed that the declaration of voting day as a special non-working holiday will help boost voter turnout.
"I was hoping that October 31 would also be declared a holiday so people can go home to their provinces and vote. Maybe we'll have a better voter turnout compared to the last election," he added.
During the latest elections, the Philippines recorded a total of 83% voter turnout, which was recorded as the highest voter turnout in Philippine history.
