Rapist hiding for 14 years arrested

A rapist who have been hiding from the law forr 14 years was arrested by elements of the Manila Police District with the help of Calapan, Mindoro police Sunday night at Barangay Camilmil, Calapan City Oriental Mindoro.

The suspect, Gilbert Abu y Velasco, 49, driver, a native of  Camilmil,Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro and resident of  Sitio 1,San Andres, Bauan, Batangas is presently under the custody of the MPD Criminal Investigation Section.

The team headed by PMMS Donald Panaligan, arrested the suspect at 6 p.m. while walking at the earlier mentioned place.

The arrest stemmed from the strength of the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Amelia Tria-Infante of the Manila Regional Trial Court, Branch 9 for three counts of rape.

The rape incident happened in January 2009 when the victim was charged in court then suddenly vanished.
