Senator Christopher "Bong" Go visited Makato town to personally distribute assistance to struggling individuals and typhoon victims gathered at the Makato Sports Complex during his recent visit to Aklan province last Saturday, 7 October.
Together with local officials, including Congressman Ted Haresco and Nabas Vice Mayor James Solanoy, among others, Go provided grocery packs, snacks, vitamins, and masks to 1,500 identified beneficiaries.
The senator also gave away shirts, bicycles, mobile phones, shoes, watches and balls for basketball and volleyball to select recipients.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment and the National Housing Authority extended necessary livelihood support and housing assistance, respectively, to qualified recipients.
As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go appealed to the public to make their health a top priority, and encouraged them to utilize the services of the Malasakit Center situated within the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo for government-backed medical assistance.
As then Special Assistant to the President, Go launched the Malasakit Centers program in 2018 with the inaugural center opening in Cebu City. It was later institutionalized under Republic Act 11463, which was principally authored and sponsored by Go when he won a seat in the Senate in 2019.
To date, the Department of Health reported that these Malasakit Centers, numbering 159 in all, have assisted over seven million indigent Filipinos and counting.
Go also highlighted the establishment of Super Health Centers in Aklan particularly in Boracay, Ibajay, Kalibo, Banga, Batan, Malay, Nabas, New Washington, Numancia, and Balete — the last one's groundbreaking was attended by Go earlier that day.
Services offered in Super Health Centers include database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: X-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose and throat service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done.
