Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City recently witnessed the grand unveiling of two pioneering electric vehicles by MG Philippines — the Marvel R and MG4 EV.

SAIC Motor Philippines took the occasion to formally introduce themselves to the market, having taken over the reins from previous MG distributor, The Covenant Car Company Inc.

This introduction into the brand's future of sustainable mobility, couldn't have been more apt with the unveiling of these two impressive fully electric vehicles.

The Marvel R, described as MG's compact electric crossover SUV, is an eye-catching piece of technology.

This model boasts an exterior that is both sleek and distinctive, with a good mix of hard angles and gentle, flowing lines.

Key features include a prominent full-width LED taillight, LED daytime running lights, bumper-mounted LED headlights, and a grille-less front, elegantly communicating its electric nature.

Add in the 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/45 series tires, and you have an SUV that's set to redefine road presence.

On the inside, the Marvel R promises to enthrall drivers and passengers alike. A massive 19.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, packed with features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and an 8-speaker sound system.

The driver's experience is further enhanced by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It's not just about tech; comfort comes into play with power-adjustable leather seats and other luxury features.
The Marvel R features a 2-gear Electric Drive system that pushes 183 horsepower, and with an astonishing 410 Nm of torque.

With the 70 kWh battery, range is projected at 402 kilometers. There is only one variant available at launch, with a retail price of P2,588,888. The vehicle comes with 8-year/160,000-kilometer EV battery warranty, and a 5-year/100,000km vehicle warranty.

Sharing the limelight with the Marvel R is the MG4 EV, a hatchback that sits low and exudes a sporty vibe. Fronted by a distinctive LED headlight and backed by boomerang-shaped taillights, the MG4 presents a daring design.

Offered in two versions, with slight variances in exterior features, the higher-spec Lux variant boasts a more powerful 64 kWh battery pack, churning out 200 horsepower, with both versions delivering a torque of 250 Nm.

The MG4 EV Hatchback is available in the Philippines in two variants, the MG4 EV Standard with a price tag of P1,468,888 and the MG4 EV Lux, which retails P1,738,888. It is complemented by an 8-year/160,000km EV battery warranty, and a 5-year/100,000km vehicle warranty.

When asked about the timing of this ambitious move, Felix Jiang, president of MG Philippines, emphasized government support and market readiness.

He noted: "The government is giving quite a big support on the EV products… that means the market is already ready for that."

Jiang also drew a connection between MG's sporty heritage and the Filipino penchant for sports, music, and a free-spirited lifestyle. "With the electric, it is more sustainable. Long-term green energy is definitely the trend for the market," he added.

With excitement for the brand's Philippine future, Jiang proclaimed: "These are very exciting times for MG and for MG Philippines. And this is just the beginning. We have big things coming for Filipino motorists."

Moreover, MG Philippines promises more surprises for Filipino motorists. Over the next two years, the automotive community can anticipate the launch of no fewer than eight new MG models, a combination of Internal Combustion Engine and EV variants.
