The Manila City Band celebrated its 60th anniversary with a concert at the Bonifacio Shrine.
The concert was attended by Mayor Honey Lacuna, Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of Manila director Charlie Dungo, Vice Mayor Yul Servo, city officials and City Councilors.
In her speech, Lacuna recognized the band's contributions to the city, saying that it has been providing music for important occasions and events for 60 years.
She also announced plans to upgrade the band's musical instruments so that its members can continue to perform at their best.
"As we close the celebration of Tourism Month, we value the 60 years of contribution of our Banda ng Maynila as they have been serving our city for six decades through their music included in important events and programs of the city government," Lacuna said.
"The music offered by our band seems to express feelings that cannot be spoken, but the sound they bring seems to be a melody that flows deep into our hearts and minds," she added.
Dungo, on the other hand, said that the band was founded in 1963 and has won awards in competitions. It was headed by retired Maj. Ambrosio Ordonia and its members were and still are composed of talented musicians from various offices of the Manila City Hall.
He also praised the band for its "vibrant energy" and "enchanting music."
