The Department of Justice yesterday said an operation to bring back expelled congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. to the Philippines is ongoing following a "chance encounter" between Teves and former senator Manny Pacquiao in Timor Leste.
The DoJ said they got in touch with the camp of Pacquiao after videos of the former senator with Teves, who is accused of the murder of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo, surfaced online.
The DoJ said they managed to get a statement from the camp of Pacquiao that what happened was just a chance encounter at the airport.
Teves's stay in Timor Leste was known to the DoJ, as Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla had mentioned it in earlier interviews.
Remulla said the Philippine government will formally inform the United Nations about the standing arrest warrant against Teves.
