The Philippines joined the ongoing China International Fair for Trade in Services, or CIFTIS, through a delegation formed by the Department of Trade and Industry's Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Beijing and Export Marketing Bureau.
The annual event, held in Beijing, had as participants, exhibitors and participants spanning a diverse spectrum of industries, encompassing game development, animation, software development, information and communications technology, telecommunications, logistics, financial services, engineering and construction, healthcare and tourism, among others.
This year, the Philippine participation is conducted solely through the online exhibition format.
Services exporters can explore opportunities to engage with Chinese clients, buyers, and investors, and also stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in their respective service sub-sectors in China.
Expo's highlight
"This year's participation highlights the "Make It Happen in the Philippines" campaign, which aims to catapult the Philippines into the international spotlight and promote the Philippines as an investment hub in Asia," the DTI statement on Tuesday said.
"Highlighting the country's proactive and can-do mindset, the campaign showcases the Philippines as a prime choice for foreign investors and clients alike. The online Philippine Pavilion will feature capabilities of the Philippine services sector and key companies," it added.
PTIC-Beijing spearheads the promotion of Philippine companies participating in CIFTIS.
As of the first quarter, China emerged as the Philippines' top trading partner, consuming a major share of the country's exports as well as being the top source of imported goods.
The country topped the list of buyers of Philippine exports, consuming 16.6 percent of total exports in April 2023, followed by the United States at 15.7 percent, and Japan at 14.4 percent.
China was also the country's biggest source of imported goods supplying 24 percent of the country's total imports, followed by Indonesia at 8.5 percent, and Japan at 7.3 percent.
