Typhoon "Goring' flooded major roads in Manila Thursday as heavy rainfall enundated the city a night before, forcing the local government to suspend classes and office work in city hall this morning.
The suspension of classes was announced early to prevent students from going to schools. After the announcement, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna made an inspection of the flooded areas in the city.
Based on the Manila Risk Reduction and Management office report starting at 9:10 a.m. areas that have "gutter deep" waters were: P. Noval, P. Faura corner Taft Avenue, Ayala Boulevard, Quezon Boulevard Corner P. Campa, PGH, Pedro Gil Corner Taft Avenue, Magsaysay Boulevard Corner Dela Fuente Street, Oroquieta Corner Fugoso Street, Felix Huertas Corner Laguna Street and Leonor Rivera Street.
Roads that are no passable to light vehicles were T.M. Kalaw, Abad Santos and Maceda Street to Espana and España corner Dela Fuente.
Workers from Manila Engineering Department were dispatched in some areas believed clogged by garbage.
Garbage collection continues despite heavy rain to ensure continuous services.
In the Manila Bay area, river rangers that were deployed to clean garbage debris washed away at the shoreline were being hauled to high-lying areas for purposes of collecting.
River rangers are also on the watch at Baseco Bay shorelines which have the same volume of garbage coming from neighboring cities and provinces.
