The Azkals Development Team will no longer play its remaining games as it formally pulled out of the 2022-2023 season of the Philippine Football League.
In a statement, the ADT said it will forfeit its five remaining games to 0-3 record.
The squad, which serves as the grassroots arm of the Azkals, didn't cite the exact reason behind the shocking withdrawal.
"ADT has already notified the league, as well as the Philippine Football Federation, of its decision and as such, all remaining fixtures of ADT will result in a 0-3 forfeit win in favor of their opponents," the statement read.
The ADT stands at the fifth spot with 21 points behind a 6-3-7 win-draw-loss record prior to the announcements and played its last match last in the PFL this season last 15 April — a 2-3 loss to Kaya FC-Iloilo — before focusing on the 32nd Southeast Asian Games last 5 to 17 May in Cambodia.
'ADT has already notified the league, as well as the Philippine Football Federation.'
The ADT bombed out of the biennial meet early after only getting a draw and three losses in Group A.
Prior to the ADT, United City FC withdrew from the PFL last February due to financial issues.
The ADT, however, is still part of the 2023 Copa Paulino Alcantara at press time.
With ADT bowing out, it leaves the PFL with only five teams this season with Kaya leading the pack with 52 points under a 15-1-5 record.
Kaya will be playing Stallion FC today at 3:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in a match that could possibly decide the new PFL champion.
