Chinese, Pinay nabbed at NAIA
Zeng’s Interpol file said he is a member of a criminal syndicate in Shandong province, China.
The Bureau of Immigration yesterday reported the interception of a Chinese national at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as a fugitive from justice in his home country over illegal gambling cases.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the passenger nabbed this week at NAIA Terminal 1 as Zeng Zhanhong, 22 years old. He was about to board a flight to Beijing via Air China when accosted.
Tansingco said Zeng was flagged by the immigration officer who was processing his departure papers when it was discovered that he was the subject of a blue notice issued by the International Police.
Zeng's Interpol file said he is a member of a criminal syndicate in Shandong province, China and that arrest and detention orders had been issued against him by the authorities there.
He was said to be involved in operating an illegal Internet gambling website.
The BI chief said Zeng was allowed to travel to China after his arrest there was coordinated with Chinese policemen who waited for him at the Beijing airport.
Meanwhile, the BI Border Control and Intelligence Unit also arrested a 62-year-old Filipina at the NAIA as an alleged illegal recruiter. The woman, who was bound for Singapore, was implicated in the illegal recruitment of a Filipino in Dubai.
The BI turned her over to the National Bureau of Investigation so she could be made to face an illegal recruitment case in Davao City.
If found guilty, the woman faces 20 years in prison for violation of Republic Act 8042, otherwise known as the Migrant Workers And Overseas Filipinos Act Of 1995.
