Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has warned the public against scammers who sell parcels of land.
"Beware, there are many cheaters and scammers!" Sotto said in a social media post.
Sotto also advised those who want to buy land to verify first at the registry of deeds if the land is titled.
"If there is no title, it is better to consult a lawyer first. We also have a legal office that can be consulted if indigent," he said.
"Do not give money if not sure. And if you are going to pay, do not agree without a receipt," the mayor added.
According to Sotto, someone approached him, saying he made a down payment of P15,000 for the land at the city jail.
"It pained so much because they worked hard for this money," Sotto said.
"For the victims, kindly give us a copy of all the pieces of evidence and details that you have — documents, pictures, and narrative — so we can catch these syndicates who have no conscience," the mayor added.
