Manila Police District chief P/Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon yesterday welcomed a donation of 100 mountain bikes to be used by beat police officers in conducting patrols in the capital city
The bikes were donated by the MPD Association of Police Officers via Lateral Entry in a simple ceremony at the MPD headquarters along United Nations Avenue.
MPD-APOLE members are commissioned officers, lieutenant and higher, who gained their ranks as professionals like doctors, lawyers and accountants, and not as graduates of either the Philippine Military Academy or the Philippine National Police Academy.
Dizon said bicycles have advantages as equipment for the police as they can be driven even into narrow alleys that patrol cars cannot penetrate when going after criminals.
The MPD chief thanked APOLE-MPD Chapter president and Raxabago police station chief P/Lt. Col. Rosalino Ibay Jr. for the donation that did not involve any funds from the Philippine National Police.
"I cannot believe the big number of bicycles that the group of APOLE has given us. I believe officials of its MPD chapter are so dedicated that they truly deserve to be recognized by Crame (PNP) as the best APOLE chapter," Dizon said.
