The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management (NDRRM) on 25 December raised Orange warning alerts in Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands, while a Yellow warning was hoisted in Misamis Occidental and Surigao del Sur due to heavy rains brought by a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) in parts of Mindanao.
An Orange advisory is raised in areas where rainfall is between 15 mm and 30 mm within one hour. Flooding is a definite threat in communities.
A Yellow advisory is raised when the expected rainfall amount is between 7.5 mm and 15 mm within one hour and likely to continue.
Several villages in Misamis Oriental and Misamis Occidental have been flooded due to continued heavy rains since 24 December.
The LPA was last tracked at 215 km East Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, or 280 km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte at 9.4°N, 128.0°E.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) is affecting Luzon, while Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the LPA.
Possible flash floods or landslides are expected amid pouring of moderate to at times heavy rains.
