Philippine Army commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner paid tribute to soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the name of protecting the State and the Filipino people.
"During this special time of the year, we shall also honor the valiant sacrifices of our dauntless Filipino warriors and heroes whose courage and determination have enabled our Force to prevail over our nation's conquerable battles in securing the hard-earned peace and sustaining our people's shared desire of fostering sustainable progress in our country," Brawner said in his Christmas Day message.
Brawner described the "revered and joyous celebration" as a manifestation of love, compassion, and benevolence of Jesus Christ where his selfless devotion and incomparable resolve are "venerable ideals and traits worthy of our emulation."
"As our formidable servant-soldiers confront the adversaries of the State may their indomitable spirit empower us to navigate the inevitable challenges of life ingrained with a heart of a peacekeeper," Brawner said .
The Philippine Army's new vision is anchored on its organizational and capability development plans under the modernization initiatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Development Plan "Ambisyon Natin 2040."
It continues to modernize its defense assets and materiel under the second horizon of the Revised AFP Modernization Program.
In 2022, the Philippine Army deployed its game-changer assets such as 12 units of 155mm self-propelled howitzers; 15 units of M113A2 armored mortar carriers; two units of Vehicle Mounted Mine Detectors; two units of Armor Vehicle Launch Bridge, unmanned aerial systems, combat radios and thermal imagers.
These new assets were eyed to boost the capabilities of the army's ground units as it shifts from internal security to territorial defense operations.
It also installed 234 very small aperture terminals in remote patrol bases to provide connectivity to troops and outlying communities.
The Philippine Army also activated its 10th Field Artillery Battalion, Cyber Battalion, five installation management battalions, and three infantry battalions to deal the emerging security threats in the country.
The 1st Tank Battalion, which serves as the mother unit of existing and upcoming tank assets, was likewise reactivated.
"The Philippine Army honors the hard work, sacrifice, and selfless service of soldiers in fulfillment of their oath to serve the people and secure the land," Brawner said.
