Manila Police District PS 1 chief P/Col. Rosalino Ibay yesterday warned residents covered by the Raxabago station not to drink liquor in public.
Ibay said he and his men have arrested a total of 212 violators of Manila City Ordinance 5555 prohibiting the imbibing of intoxicating drinks in public places, including on sidewalks and alleyways.
Likewise, Ibay said 24 youth offenders had been accosted and processed following their alleged engagement in rioting. He urged parents to rein in their children so they do not come in conflict with the law.
In an exclusive interview by Daily Tribune, Ibay said the 212 ordinance violators were charged before the Manila Prosecutor's Office, while the youth rioters were referred to the Manila Department of Social Welfare.
"All those arrested by the Raxabago PS-1 are charged and no cases will be 'arbored' so we can instill discipline in Tondo," Ibay said. "Walang arbor-arbor sa Tondo!"
"We cannot change the image of Tondo if we policemen are weaklings in enforcing something as simple as the ban on getting drunk in public," he added.
