A group of professionals has been playing in a mini-tournament while waiting for the resumption of the golf circuit next season.
Played over 18 holes at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna, the event has lured some of the big names, including Angelo Que, Clyde Mondilla, and Justin Quiban, among others.
"It is open to all including women and amateurs," said Paul Echavez who along with Rupert Zaragosa organizes the small event.
Each team is made up of two players who play best ball.
They compete for a small pot of money derived from entry fees and donations from sponsors. The entry fee is P2,000 per team.
On Thursday, the pairs of Ira Alido-Jeff Jung and Quiban-Joey Huerva tied for first place on 15-under. Third was Ryan James Lam-Jet Mathay on 11-under while Que-Mars Pucay and Mondilla-Jay Bayron shared fourth on 10-under.
Alido-Jung and Quiban-Huerva shared the combined first and second prizes of P18,000.
Only eight teams played, but the pot money was raised to P31,000 through the sponsorships of Edwin Fajardo and Carlo Quimson who donated P10,000 and P5,000, respectively.
Amateur Laurea Dy Duque was among those who participated.
It marked the fifth time the tournament was held. Last week's event was topped by Alido-Jung and Mondilla-Bayron.
The group meets again on Thursday next week for another round of fun, friendship and camaraderie.
