Senator Christopher "Bong" Go renewed his call for eligible Filipinos to join in the government's goal of overcoming the pandemic as soon as possible by getting their jabs against Covid-19 while the Department of Health remains to negotiate with vaccine manufacturers in acquiring bivalent vaccines.
According to DoH Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, bivalent vaccines are expected to be available in the country by the first quarter of 2023.
Go, who is also Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, expressed his hope in the government's pandemic recovery efforts as long as it would hasten the country's recovery and return to normalcy, saying,
In light of issues on vaccine wastage, Go has urged the Commission on Audit to efficiently do its mandate and audit funds used for the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines. The senator has likewise repeatedly called for cooperation and transparency to ensure that the public is aware that the funds used for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccinations are well-spent.
In a related development, Go lauded the 5th Anniversary of Touch of Love on Thursday, 15 December at Sto. Niño Elementary School in San Mateo, Rizal for bringing hope and support to Filipino cancer patients.
Touch of Love is a non-profit organization founded in 2018. It was formed after John Paul Culiao, a leukemia patient, expressed his vision to encourage and give hope to other children who are battling cancer.
In 2018, it can be recalled that Go, who was then the Special Assistant to the President, significantly helped in the treatment of Culiao. He received treatment at the Philippine Children's Medical Center in Diliman, Quezon City.
Go then became close to Culiao and the senator even celebrated Culiao's sixth birthday at Philippine Children's Medical Center in 2019.
He then continued to praise the strength of children with cancer and urged them not to give up, citing that he will continue to support them in the best of his capacity.
Go, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, reaffirmed his commitment to support more programs and measures to help ease the burden of Filipino cancer patients and their families.
Last Sunday, the senator visited Enrile, Cagayan where he was hailed an adopted son of the town and personally provided assistance to residents who have been struggling financially due to the ongoing global health crisis.
Go led the relief operation at Enrile Municipal Hall where he and his team distributed grocery packs, masks, vitamins, meals, umbrellas and shirts to 500 struggling residents.
There were also select recipients of cellular phones, shoes, bicycles and balls for basketball and volleyball.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, in turn, provided livelihood grants through its Sustainable Livelihood Program to help the residents start anew.
