Half of over one million healthcare workers have completed their Covid-19 vaccination with a second booster dose, the Department of Health said.
Citing its latest Covid-19 vaccination statistics, the DoH said 603,905 out of the total 1,196,107 healthcare workers have received their second booster dose.
"Out of the 1,196,107 eligible A1 population, 592,202 are currently due for second boosters doses," the DoH said.
The health department reiterated that vaccination is not mandatory and that consent must always be asked.
"Current evidence only shows that second boosters are only recommended for A1, A2, A3 aged 18 and above," it added.
"However, the review process is always ongoing and when new evidence comes in we can then assess and recommend second boosters for the general population while going through the proper regulatory process."
Senator Francis Tolentino has asked the DoH to utilize the remaining government-procured Covid-19 vaccines for the second booster shot for the general population.
Tolentino issued the remarks when health officials, along with other Cabinet members of former president Rodrigo Duterte, attended a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on the supposed non-disclosure clause embedded in the acquisition contracts for Covid-19 vaccines.
