Ten people from three families perished in a fire that gutted a two-story house in Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa City Sunday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection has confirmed.
Among the dead was a five-year-old child. One other person was reported by relatives to be missing at press time.
Fire probers surmised that the victims were roused from sleep too late, thus they were not able to escape the conflagration.
An earlier BFP report pegged the number of the dead at seven but three more bodies turned up after fire out was declared.
City fire marshall F/Supt. Eugene Briones said the victims were found on the second and ground floor of the house that burned.
A one-story house was also hit by the fire at Larva Street, Bruger Subdivision, he added.
According to the BFP-National Capital Region public information office, the fire reached the first alarm at 9:02 a.m. It was declared under control around 9:25 a.m. and out by 10:25 a.m.
"That's right, the house (that burned) had two floors. We have a lot of casualties and that's really difficult (to accept) for the loved ones of those who perished," the fire official said.
Damage to property was pegged at only P500,000 as the affected houses were made of light materials.
Forensic and fire probers were investigating the incident, combing through the charred dwellings.
