‘Malaysia Week 2022’: Food, dance, culture, and humanity’s spirit of oneness

‘Last year, 400,000 Filipinos visited Malaysia. We want to see the number grow so that you can see and connect with the people of Malaysia. Likewise, Malaysians are coming to the Philippines in groups. Many Malaysians right now are discovering that the Philippines is beautiful, its people, the beaches, the cities,’ said Mohd Fareed Zakaria, Malaysian Embassy charge d’ affaires.

The Embassy of Malaysia on 10 December hosted 'Malaysia Week 2022' — an in-person promotional event whose theme was diversity and humanity's spirit of oneness.

Mohd Fareed Zakaria, Malaysian Embassy charge d' affaires, told Daily Tribune: "The main thing we want to promote today is people. People represent many things — culture, food, dance, music, so Filipinos will get to know us better. We have much in common…"

He pointed out: "Last year, 400,000 Filipinos visited Malaysia. We want to see the number grow so that you can see and connect with the people of Malaysia. Likewise, Malaysians are coming to the Philippines in groups. Many Malaysians right now are discovering that the Philippines is beautiful, its people, the beaches, the cities… I have friends in the Philippines who have yet to discover the inner beauty of the country."

The event, held at Corinthian Car Park, featured booths offering traditional and modern Malaysian food such yellow flat noodles known as Mee Goreng Mamak, curry puff stuffed chicken, and rice dishes.

There were also clothing such as the hijab, colorful kaftans and accessories, a tea tarik pouring hosted by Berjaya Hotel, a sari fashion contest and a cultural dance competition.

Children of Malaysian Embassy officials performed a traditional dance, and participated in a fashion show with Malaysian attire, including a wedding ensemble.

"When you come to Malaysia, you will be greeted with a warm embrace. You will discover great food. We are proud of our culinary heritage. Malaysia is about diversity."
