Andrea Brillantes is doing a lot of swimming for her turn to play the latest Dyesebel.
The actor's manager, Ogie Diaz, said her 19-year-old ward will play the enduring mermaid-human comic book character in a new teleserye in 2023.
"Andrea, good luck sa pagiging Dyesebel mo 'no? Kasi 'yung iba nagtatanong kung marunong bang mag-swim si Andrea. Yes, marunong siya mag-swim," Diaz said.
Brillantes' mother Belle, a certified diver, is helping her train for the role.
Rumor has it that the 2023 Dyesebel will replace Mars Ravelo's Darna — but ABS-CBN has yet to comment.
Dyesebel, another creation of Ravelo, is about a mermaid who turns out to be the daughter of a merman and a female human. Disowned by the sea, she strikes a deal with a sea witch to turn fully human.
The popular role has been played in past movies starring Vilma Santos, Alma Moreno, Alice Dixson, Charlene Gonzales, and on TV by Marian Rivera, Anne Curtis.
Ravelo is also known for creating the comic book characters Captain Barbel, Facifica Falayfay, Jack & Jill, and Roberta for Sampaguita Pictures.
Meanwhile, Brillantes is also busy with the Dreamscape Entertainment and iWantTFC series Drag You & Me with Christian Bables, JC Alcantara, Romnick Sarmenta, KaladKaren Davila, and drag queens Brigiding, Viñas Deluxe and Precious Paula Nicole.
Drag You & Me tells the stories of Filipino drag queens, directed by JP Habac and written by Nathan Arciaga. It premieres in 2023.
In the cast, too, are Ice Seguerra, Jon Santos, Lance Carr, PJ Endrinal, Jeric Raval, Amy Nobleza, Yves Flores, Noel Comia Jr., and Xilhouete.
