Clandestine e-sabong activities in Central Visayas generate nearly P156,000 in gambling bets
A crackdown against illegal online cockfight betting or guerilla e-sabong in Central Visayas from 5 to 10 December netted 283 suspects, the chief of the regional police office said.
A total 276 gamers, three tellers, two referees and two operators were arrested during the 6-day police operations against e-sabong in the region, according to the report of Police Brigadier General Roderick Agustus B. Alba, director of the Police Regional Office 7, to Philippine National Police chief PGen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
In the same period, police confiscated gambling bets amounting to P155,779, eight computers, and 52 cellphones. Police filed 109 cases in court against the arrested individuals.
The PNP supports PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) in implementing the instructions of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to continue enforcing the nationwide suspension of all e-sabong activities and shutdown of all online infrastructure that patronize these illegal activites, he said.
Azurin reminded all 17 regional police directors and their respective provincial directors, as well as the director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, to strictly implement his directives to stop all illegal gambling activities in their respective areas of responsibiliy.
