
The Department of Public Works and Highways is pushing for the fast-tracking of numerous infrastructure projects in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur as part of the government's rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts in the city.
The projects are funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Asian Development Bank.
The JICA is supporting civil works packages for four portions of the 18.87 kilometer Marawi Transcentral Road Phase 3 project, with each portion covering several national roads in the City. DPWH reported a progress range of 68 to 86 percent across all of the four contracts.
Meantime, Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain is leading the monitoring of the national infrastructure program 'Build Better More' and projects in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
These include an inspection on Thursday where he was joined by Undersecretary Maximo Carvajal and other DPWH officials.
The agency is also eyeing for the completion of two road projects that are part of Stage 2 of the Reconstruction and Development Plan for a Greater Marawi funded by the ADB, which include 5.29 kilometer transcentral road project and 4.71 kilometer roads along Mindanao State University, whose construction progress is at 49 and 61 percent respectively.
DPWH said that other ADB-funded road and bridge projects part of the Emergency Assistance for Reconstruction and Recovery of Marawi will be commencing road work soon.
