The Bicameral Conference Committee has granted a P750 million budget each in four specialty hospitals, paving the way for the multi-year construction of new 20-story buildings.
House Committee on Appropriations chairperson Elizaldy Co, one of the bicam panel's leaders, said Friday the Philippine General Hospital, PGH-Philippine Cancer Institute, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, and the Philippine Children's Medical Center would receive the funds for projects involving various specialized medical facilities.
The said budget allocation was included in the proposed P5.268-trillion General Appropriations Bill or the President's proposed national spending plan for next year.
Members of the bicam panel composed of Senate and House members on 5 December ratified its budget report just hours after the committee reconciled the disagreeing versions of the GAB.
Co said the 2023 budget also includes expanding coverage of medical referrals by members of Congress and senators to include private hospitals through a voucher system and a total of P540 million for 20 dialysis centers.
