With exports showing signs of a robust recovery in the previous months, the government through Department of Trade and Industry and Export Development Council; and the private sector represented by the Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. will seek ways to maintain the trade momentum.
Ways to bring the trade level to the pre-pandemic level will be the main agenda in this year's 2022 National Export Congress which opens today.
The first week of December was declared as Exporters' Week per Presidential Proclamation 931, Series of 1996.
The congress is the culminating activity of the National Exporters' Week, to demonstrate the commitment of the government and the private sector to continuously work to sustain export promotion and development.
This year's assembly of exporters will focus on discussions and activities that will pave the way for "exporting breakthroughs" for traders, with an eye on making the Philippines a major exporting nation.
It emphasizes the need to harness the experience, expertise, and knowledge of both public and private stakeholders in international trade and the need to build on the competitive advantage by pursuing innovation and diversification and cultivating a competitive mindset among stakeholders.
Likewise, Congress is readying legislation to support the Philippine Export Development Plan for 2023 to 2028.
"The new PEDP has an overarching goal of transforming the Philippines from an exporter of commodities and intermediate goods to an exporter of high-value products and services," Philexport said in an earlier statement.
Trade Promotions Group assistant secretary Glenn Peñaranda said discussions and activities during the event aim to capacitate local exporters, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises, as they go through their exporting journey on the development of their products and services and creating marketing and promotion strategies, and delivering to customers.
"To be globally competitive, we must actively engage, learn and seek opportunities for continuous development," Peñaranda said.
