The Department of Labor and Employment has yet to comment on the ongoing calls for a wage increase

Independent think-tank Ibon Foundation on Tuesday increased its proposed family living wage to P1,140 per day following the report of the Philippine Statistics Authority that the country's inflation rate now stands at eight percent — the highest in 14 years.
The foundation stressed that recent inflation rate increase should require a significant increase in the country's minimum wage, which is as high as P570 in Metro Manila and as low as P306 in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
"This makes a substantial wage increase, ample cash assistance and subsidies for poor and vulnerable sectors all the more urgent," Ibon said.
The Department of Labor and Employment has yet to comment on the continuous calls for a wage increase.
To recall, DoLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma previously ordered regional wage boards to review the current minimum wage within their respective regions.
However, Laguesma said that the wage increase should be put in careful scrutiny, as the National Wages and Productivity Commission said that a wage order should only be issued once a year, adding that it should also depend on whether the current inflation rate is a 'supervening condition' that could allow the wage increase by law.
