The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group disclosed on Sunday that its operatives arrested three individuals — including two Nigerian nationals — following their alleged involvement in an online love scam.

The suspects — identified as Leanna Veronica Padua, a Filipino and Nigerian nationals Precious Samuel y Oghogho and Ushahemba Ijirzua y Geoffrey — were nabbed by authorities during an entrapment operation on Saturday afternoon in Las Piñas City.

Based on the initial report, the complainant was a 55-year-old female who allegedly befriended a certain "Philip Brian" in one social media site and their online affairs continued using a smart mobile phone application.

Through use of deceitful words and false promises, the suspect borrowed money from the female complainant totaling P230,000 through money transfer.

After few days, the suspect continued to ask money from the victim to be sent to a certain Leanna Veronica Padua. Four transactions were claimed in Pulang Lupa Uno, Las Piñas City and another in a mall in Las Piñas City.

Recovered from the area of the suspects were one iPhone 11, one iPhone XS Max and one Techno Spark Mobile phone.

The suspects were brought to Southern District Anti-Cybercrime Team for documentation and filing of appropriate charges for Violation of Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code (Swindling/Estafa) in relation to Section 5(a) and (b) and Section 6 of Republic Act 10175 also known as "Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012."
