
Combined damage in infrastructure, agriculture, and other properties in areas battered by severe tropical storm "Paeng" has reached P7.4 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Sunday.
Infrastructure bore the brunt of "Paeng" at P4.31 billion. The disaster agency said 722 structures were destroyed, including schools.
Southern Tagalog and Bicol Region top the list: Region IV-A, P1.2 billion; Region IV-B, P794 million and Region V, P793 million.
The agency also reported 508 road portions and 120 bridges that have been affected by the recent storm, with 20 road sections and 68 bridges remaining impassable.
As of Sunday, Western Visayas has the highest number of road and bridge damage, with 58 road portions and 12 bridges still not passable to motorists.
Cagayan Valley ranks second with 40 road portions and 46 bridges damaged.
Meanwhile, damage to agriculture, livestock and fisheries have reached almost P3.08 billion on agricultural land of more than 92 million hectares and 5,623 machinery, affecting almost 82,000 farmers and fisherfolks.
The above estimate also includes P113 million worth of damage to livestock and poultry.
NDRRMC reported more than 19,200 hectares of land that have been damaged with no chance of recovery and more than 72,800 hectares that have been partially damaged, with losses in production of almost 3 billion.
The storm also affected a total of 34,698 houses in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao. NDRRMC has no cost figures for the remaining regions.
A total of 566 areas across the country have been declared under a state of calamity.
The agency also reported 156 casualties from the storm with 121 confirmed deaths as well as 141 injuries with 37 individuals still missing.
BARMM has the most number of deaths at 63, including 17 individuals missing.
