Death is one, if not the most inescapable concept and phase in our lifetime.
It is something that we have to face from time to time, whether it involves the end of our own existence or that of our loved ones, acquaintances or those involved in horrible tragedies.
Every year, we observe 'Undas' or the Day of the Dead as a reminder of our deceased loved ones and the longevity of our lives as living beings too.
However, it is not just fellow humans that we grieve for, but also our pets who have accompanied us in our joy and sadness through their behavior and quirks that add color to our relatively mundane days.
Losing a pet is also tragic, especially if that animal has been a part of our everyday lives and has made a lasting impact on us for many years.
Talking to Daily Tribune, Communications Assistant Maze Aliño-Dayundayon shared the feeling of losing her very own pet dog named Cookies.
Cookies died last Tuesday due to cardiac arrest. Prior to this, her dog suffered from weakness and eventual blood loss.
As she goes to work and takes care of her baby, she hadn't reached home until two days later when she eventually brought her dog to an animal ospital, where she was told of the sad news:
"It still hurts to think about it, but I need to accept her passing. I just think that Cookies is not feeling pain anymore. She might have also felt bad that we have been away from home to go on with our lives," Dayundayon said.
That night, Dayundayon posted the sad news on Facebook:
"I didn't expect that our hug a while ago would be the last," she said.
Cookies was her dog for seven years, alongside a male dog named Hachi. She shared how much of a loving pet she was to her:
"She was a very loving pet. When I went home from work, she welcomed me, even if I came home late. When we went to sleep, she tends to sleep beside me like a baby. You'll need to adjust as she's always the first to get up to bed," Dayundayon recalled.
Dayundayon reflected on Cookies' passing after more than a week, and the importance of taking care of our pets:
"Always give them love, support and security. Let's not neglect them because our pets have feelings and are sacrificing themselves for our happiness," she said.
