Landslides, road closures affect motorists amid ‘Paeng’ onslaught

Regional offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways have announced road closures amid the onslaught of Tropical Storm Paeng.

The storm has been felt in Eastern Visayas on Friday, and will traverse Northwest of Luzon, crossing Bicol Region, Southern Luzon, Metro Manila, and Central Luzon over the weekend, PAGASA said.

DPWH Region VIII reported that portions of Tacloban-Baybay South Road have not been passable to motorists due to a minor landslide in Barangay Makinhas and flooding in Barangay Gaas.

Flooding was also reported on a portion of Ormoc-Baybay-Southern Leyte Boundary Road from Barangay Talisay to Barangay Catandog II.

Wright-Taft-Borongan Road has also been closed down since Friday morning due to possible landslides, with the DPWH Region VIII advising motorists to use the Buenavista-Lawaan-Marabut Road as an alternate route.

Meanwhile, DPWH Region I said that they may close down a portion of Manila North Road in Barangay Pancian, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte for clearing purposes and safety precautions following the onslaught of Tropical Storm Paeng.

DPWH Region V – Bicol also reported that they are ready to respond to the aftereffects of Tropical Storm Paeng, with 168 of their equipment positioned in case of emergency.
