Marvin Rodriguez has gained success in the corporate field. After years as an HR executive in top local companies in agriculture, IT, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals, he is now Country Manager of MiraMed Philippines, a healthcare business process outsource company. The De La Salle University and San Beda University alumnus could have easily opt to relax or de-stress on his off-days, but he prefers to devote his free time to helping the less fortunate through his chosen civic organization. Since 2015, Rodriguez has been with the Rotary Club, of which he served as President of the Rotary Club of Daang-Hari in 2020-201. Now, he is Assistant Governor of Rotary District 3830.
"It is genuine care for communities," he says of the Rotary Club. "The act of like-minded people pooling time, treasure, and talent to really help our brothers and sisters who need care and attention and help is what I find very meaningful about the organization," he underscores.
As Rotary Club president, Rodriguez scored major victories when he spearheaded 55 service projects and community outreach activities in Metro Manila, Bicol, and Palawan. That he accomplished these during the pandemic is indeed truly commendable. "I did disaster response, aid to schools and barangays, water sanitation projects, polio vaccination, among others," he enumerates.
Now that he is Rotary Club Assistant Governor, he vows to share his experience and resources, and lend his expertise to his fellows Rotarians. "I am here to assist and advise club presidents in making their goals achievable this year, and to be there for the clubs whenever I am needed," he elaborates.
Yet his role is not exclusively an advisory function. In fact, he is currently working on at least three major projects to be accomplished soon: Potable water for a community, a tree planting activity and a book drive. The book drive, in particular, is aiming for a wide reach as the project hopes to gather thousands of books to be given to school age children. All these are in line with Rodriguez's advocacies in literacy, livelihood, care for the youth and elderly and environmental protection. All of these new initiatives are set to be implemented in Puerto Princesa City, the beloved hometown of Rodriguez.
While his career life gives him personal fulfillment, it is his civic involvement that gives him inspired purpose. He urges fellow professionals to find time to support a chosen cause. Rodriguez declares, "We must strive to be relevant members of society. If we want things to be better, then we should start from within. No excuses. Get up in the morning and take action. We live for ourselves, but we must also live for others."
