Gilas stint boosts Quiambao career

Kevin Quiambao's career got a massive boost when he joined Gilas Pilipinas in its preparation for the fifth window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Quiambao, a De La Salle University standout, said playing with professional players from the Philippine Basketball Association and Japan B. League gave him the experience and the exposure he needs for his future career.

"For me, it's a big exposure for my playing career," Quiambao said during a break at Gilas training.

"It also increases my level of play, especially I'm playing with PBA stars. They're great players. I'm here to learn and all the things that I will learn, I have to apply to my game."

The 6-foot-8 Quiambao is one among the collegiate players attending the weekly Gilas workouts every Monday. Also showing up are Carl Tamayo of University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University aces Francis Lopez and Ange Kouame.

Quiambao said playing next to his boyhood idols is a dream come true.

"I'm determined to make it to the final 12," added Quiambao, who hasn't missed a practice session since the buildup for the fifth window started.

Quiambao admitted that he was surprised to be given an opportunity like this one at the early stage of his career.

"I'm just so happy, me, being a collegiate player getting this opportunity of a lifetime playing alongside PBA stars," added Quiambao, who is hopeful of cracking the final roster that will see action on 10 November against Jordan and 13 November against Saudi Arabia.

"I'm still adjusting, but I'm so excited what's ahead in front of me."

"For me, playing in the senior level gives me the opportunity to learn more. They're more experienced, more talented. I'm really so happy to be a part of their company. I'm just a college player who was given opportunity to play with PBA stars."
