The Japanese government is set to host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Law Ministers Meeting and the ASEAN Justice Ministers in its capital on 6 to 7 July next year.
The plan was conveyed by officials from the Japanese Ministry of Justice during the 2nd ASLOM-Japan Consultations held at the sidelines of the 21st Asean Senior Law Officials Meeting last 13 to 14 October 2022.
Meantime, the ASEAN-Japan Special Meeting of Justice Ministers will be held under the theme "Advancing Asean-Japan Cooperation to Promote the Rules of Law: Towards a New Phase Beyond the 50th Year of Friendship and Cooperation."
The proposal of Japan to host the ALAWMM and AJSMJ was warmly welcomed by the 21st ASLOM chairman, Department of Justice Undersecretary Brigido Dulay, as a "fitting platform for ASEAN-Japan cooperation to uphold the rule of law and human rights in various aspects such as crime prevention and criminal justice, promotion of international trade dispute settlement, and immigration."
"The upcoming meetings will be an opportunity for ASEAN member states to forge the path of regional cooperation with Japan," Dulay said.
