Senators Grace Poe and Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III on Tuesday expressed their support for the government's decision to make the wearing of masks in indoor areas voluntary.
In a statement, Poe said that she supports the government's goal to invigorate and rebuild the pandemic-battered economy.
"Loosening the mask mandate and regulations on the entry of tourists will help generate economic activities, foremost among them is providing jobs to our people," she said.
"No less than the World Health Organization has said last month that the end of the pandemic is in sight. However, it has not quite left the scene," she added.
Poe, however, reminded the public to continue adhering to the minimum health protocols of frequent hand washing and maintaining good hygiene.
"We must build on the gains of the past in the fight against Covid-19 until we cross the finish line in this health crisis," she said.
Likewise, Pimentel said he agrees with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's decision to further ease the Covid-19 restrictions.
"I agree with it. It's time to learn to live with the virus," the Senate minority leader said.
At a press briefing in Malacanang, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco announced that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is set to issue an executive order making the wearing of face masks in indoor areas voluntary.
Frasco said this decision was made during a Cabinet meeting earlier in the day.
In September, Marcos issued Executive Order No. 3 allowing the voluntary wearing of face masks in outdoor settings, particularly in open spaces and non-crowded outdoor areas with good ventilation.
