Philippine National Police chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin on Monday said that he is eyeing to clinch a series of grants for technical assistance in the form of equipment, infrastructure and training for the PNP and other Philippine law enforcement agencies.
This comes as following the attendance of Azurin to the annual Mutual Defense Board and Security Engagement Board meeting at Camp H.M. Smith in Hawaii.
"I also took the opportunity to present before the Board the PNP wish list of recommended US-sponsored training and infrastructure projects to upgrade PNP logistical resources and capability to maintain our operational standards in combating domestic threats and security issues," Azurin said.
The traditional security concerns of the Mutual Defense Board — created under the RP-US Mutual Defense Treaty of 1951 — have evolved into non-traditional regional security issues, particularly transnational crime that have become among the concern of national security forces such as the PNP.
The Hawaii MDB-SEB meeting served as platform for crafting of activities of the two Boards for the coming year — to review goals and strategic objectives and for discussion of other related mutual defense and security issues.
