National Irrigation Administration head Benny Antiporda on Monday disclosed that one of the reasons why flooding occurred in San Miguel town in Bulacan was because of the overflowing aof the Bulo Dam due to the rains brought about by super typhoon "Karding."
Antiporda said that Bulo Dam has no floodgates and once it reaches its spilling level of 76 meters, it will automatically release water, which caused the huge flooding experienced by residents of San Miguel.
He added that the Bulo Dam reached its spilling level on Sunday night.
However, Antiporda stressed that the dam has mitigated the flooding, saying that if the dam was not present, a more severe flooding will be experienced.
There were no reported damaged structures on NIA's irrigation canals, but Antiporda said that they will still monitor other farm fields to check their irrigation systems.
