President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is on top of the situation, Malacañang assured as the government rushed to prepare for the heavy rains and strong winds that will be brought by super typhoon "Karding" on Sunday.
"Still fresh from his working visit in the US, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday immediately buckled down to work by maintaining constant communication with his key Cabinet members directly involved in the preparations for super typhoon 'Karding,'" Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said.
In a separate statement, Marcos said he is in constant contact with concerned government agencies involved in disaster preparedness such as the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Science and Technology.
"I am in constant contact with Defense Secretary Jose Faustino Jr., who also chairs the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, as well as with Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo and Secretary Renato Solidum of the Department of Science and Technology," he said.
The Chief Executive is also in constant communication with Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos for the ongoing evacuations of residents in coastal and low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture, which the president concurrently chairs, had already ordered its regional field offices to take concrete steps in preparing the areas along the track of the storm.
Among the following precautionary measures being done were the activation of the DA's Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operation Centers; prepositioning of seeds for rice and corn, drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry in safe storage facilities; and coordination with the local government units, and other Regional DRRM-related offices in the monitoring of the typhoon.
The President also ordered the continuous dissemination of advisory to the Animal Protection and Council Office, LGUs, and farmer leaders.
