A woman died inside the house she and her family was renting in Pasig City burned down at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, authorities said.
The Bureau of Fire Protection identified the fatality as Melanie Gonzales. Her body was found inside the bathroom of the house at Sampaguita Street, De Castro Subdivision in Barangay Sta. Lucia.
BFP probers citing witnesses said the deceased went back to the burning house after she herded family members to safety. She tried to put out the fire, they said.
The victim's son was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his second-degree burns on his right arm.
The BFP reminded the public to immediately leave burning structures and not to attempt to put fires themselves so as not to risk their health and lives unduly.
Fire probers are investigating the cause of the fire.
