US President Joe Biden on Thursday thanked the Philippine government for its stance on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which continues to affect global prices of oil and petroleum products, and other basic commodities.
"We also thank you for your position on the war against Ukraine and by Russia. And how it's impacting energy prices and food prices. And we are working very hard to be able to do something about that," Biden told President Bongbong Marcos during their first bilateral meeting in New York City.
In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Biden called on allied nations to extend assistance to Ukraine in order for it to overcome the Russian attack and nuclear use threats, which he described as "reckless" and "irresponsible."
In a press briefing here, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz Angeles said the Marcos administration "simply continues the policy of the previous administration."
"Well, the President will not veer from the friend to all, enemy to none, general foreign policy," she noted.
"However, they do recognize inherent injustices and this forms part of that foreign policy. Beyond that, there are no other specifics," she added.
