Alex Eala on 10 September beat Canada's Victoria Mboko, 6-1, 7-6, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York, to become the first Filipino to reach the US Open junior tennis final.
The 17-year-old Eala — a Rafa Nadal Academy scholar and a singles quarterfinalist and doubles semifinalist in 2021 — began the 2022 US Open Juniors tournament with wins against Canadian Annabelle Xu in the first round, 6-3, 6-0, and Slovakian Nina Vargova in the second round, 6-2, 6-3.
