Terrence Romeo is on track to make a return for San Miguel Beer in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner's Cup starting 21 September.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria revealed that the fiery playmaker is getting close to recovering from a back injury that sidelined him for the entire Philippine Cup.
Fortunately for the Beermen, Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, Simon Enciso, CJ Perez and Jericho Cruz stepped up, leading them to the All-Filipino crown against TNT Tropang Giga last week.
"There is a possibility that he will play in the second conference because he's now starting to move well," Austria said in an interview with SEAG LIVE.
"Every day he's working out, It's just a matter of time before he formally returns."
With Romeo's return, the Beermen will further boost their already loaded roster.
Aside from its quality backcourt personnel, San Miguel also has a terrific frontcourt bannered by six-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, Vic Manuel, Rodney Brondial, and Robbie Herndon with former National Basketball Association standout Thomas Robinson as import.
"But you don't know when injuries will return or if you're already fit and ready," Austria said.
"We are confident that Terrence will be back very soon. He will be a big help to the team."
Romeo's return will be a major boost to the Beermen.
His playmaking and outside shooting will be crucial to the effectivity of Fajardo and Robinson, giving them larger room to dominate underneath.
"We saw during the semifinals and the finals that we need somebody who can shoot from the perimeter. We know that they always double June Mar so we have to let them pick which poison they want to take," he said.
"And we know that Terrence can score anytime."
