Gayoso, Kaya eye fifth victory

Gayoso, Kaya eye fifth victory

Jarvey Gayoso and Kaya FC Iloilo are looking to extend their hot charge as they collide with Stallion Laguna FC in the Philippines Football League today at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Kickoff is set at 7 p.m. with the red-hot Iloilo-based squad eyeing its fifth straight win to sustain its momentum in the early stretch of the season.

In-form Azkals Development Team and Dynamic Herb Cebu FC will clash for their second straight win in the 4 p.m. curtain-raiser, while listless Maharlika Manila FC and Mendiola FC will tangle at 7 p.m. over at the Imus City Grandstand.

Kaya remains in pole position with 12 points on a flawless 4-0 card, defending champion United City FC is still at second with 10 points, while Stallion is far third at six points.

Dynamic Herb improved to four points, ADT has three, while Mendiola and Maharlika are yet to claim a point.

After a quiet debut season with Kaya, the 25-year-old Gayoso started to flaunt his offensive arsenal with an impressive hattrick to book a 4-1 win over Maharlika last week.

The former Ateneo de Manila University standout scored via clearance in the 13th minute before taking over with two powerful goals in the tail end of the match.

Veteran defender Carlyle Mitchell also made his presence felt as he skied a header that doubled the gap in the 41st minute.

Gayoso's performance also put him on top of the scoring list with five goals in just four outings.

With that, Kaya tactician Yu Hoshide expressed confidence that they could stage another dominant win that would keep them on top.

"We are showing some quality even with just substitute players so hopefully all players will perform well," said Hoshide, banking on Gayoso and veterans Jovin Bedic, Eric Giganto and Daizo Horikoshi.

But Stallion will be a tough nut to crack.

After two straight wins, the Laguna-based crew lost steam and absorbed a sorry 3-4 loss to visiting Dynamic Herb FC at home.

That stinging loss at home is enough to fire up the crew of Abou Sy, Gabriel Silva and Hamed Hajjimedi to bounce back in the win column.
