The Miss Universe 71st edition will happen in the first quarter of 2023 and not in the last quarter of this year, according to information obtained by Puerta Rican newspaper El Vocero,

"We are going to hold the Miss Universe event in the first quarter of 2023; we will announce it soon, " the Miss Universe Organization reportedly told the pageant's national directors.

Should this happen, the 71st and 72nd editions of the international beauty pageant may both be held next year. Beginning in the 72nd edition, pregnant women, mothers, and married or divorced women will now be allowed to participate in the competition.

Although the host country has not been officially confirmed, Jorge Pérez, regional director of Puerto Rican entertainment company ASM Global, disclosed that the Miss Universe beauty pageant has a separate date at the Puerto Rico Coliseum in 2023.

"It has not yet been formalized, but I understand that the intention of the organization is to have the contest in Puerto Rico and us as the destination, just as it was with Miss World. We understand that it is an opportunity to continue projecting Puerto Rico to the world," said Pérez.

Puerto Rican Ashley Ann Cariño Barreto seeks to become the successor to Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, who will have a reign of more than a year. Philippine bet Celeste Cortesi will vie for the country's fifth Miss Universe crown.
